Serving as the secretary of MSR Electrical Construction Corp. in Brooklyn, New York, Michael Riglietti possesses more than two decades’ experience in the electric power field. Previously a project manager and electricians’ foreman at Eugene Iovine Electrical, Michael Riglietti maintains membership in the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

A national association representing the $130 billion electrical industry, NECA recently published an article about the benefits of the emerging technology called power over ethernet (PoE). A sustainable energy solution, PoE uses ethernet cables to transfer both power and data. Since it uses less than 60 volts and doesn’t require the placement of new wire or cable, PoE electricity is easy to install.

With PoE technology, each light fixture connects independently to the ethernet network. This allows technicians to avoid rewiring a whole room to make an electrical change, Instead, they can just reprogram individual fixtures. With a PoE system, back-up power is quieter and more efficient since it relies on an energy-storage system rather than a generator.
